XVII Festival «VINNYTSIA JAZZFEST - 2012"
22-23 September 2012 Vinnitsa backs into a jazz capital of Ukraine. It is during these days that the concerts of XVII festival "International Days of Jazz in Vinnytsia," which is now named «VINNYTSIA JAZZFEST» will take place.
Each year the festival gets second - unofficial name. So XVII festival is conditionally entitled "Wow! Familiar face! "Viewers will see and hear performances of old friends of Vinnytsia - the stars of world jazz, project The Shin (Georgia - Spain), George Breynshmidt (Austria) in the trio Brein Cafe, Andrey Kondakov (Russia) and Jesse Jones (USA), Zbigniew Namyslovskyi quintet and many others. Vinnytsia part will be represented by famous musicians Oksana Slavna and Roman Kulmatitskyi quartet.
By tradition, which was started in 2011, both days will start with the sounds of "Jazz de Paris", which will bring together the winners of the second nationwide competition for young jazz musicians, the finale will take place on the eve of the festival, together with our famous jazz orchestra Municipal band "VinBend" and guests of the Festival.
By geography, XVII festival covers 13 countries. Organizers continued multi-geographical formula construction of festival appearances. Thus, in the XVII musicians from Poland, Georgia, Spain, Sweden, Italy, Switzerland, South Africa, Austria, Bulgaria, France, Russia, USA and Ukraine will play.
For the first time at the festival performers from South Africa will appear. This is a dark horse of the festival and rather vocal quartet "Soweto Entsha Vocal" a cappella, which surprised and is already lovedby all lovers of vocal jazz. The musicians were acknowledged during the performance at the opening ceremony of the World Cup finals. Their program is different from other African music shows that it has cleverly combined vocal Western pop elements and African national traditions. It is the style where all are vsinging, all are dancing - from contemporary R & B charm to the exciting spirit of ancient tribes ... Their exquisite singing and music fascinates sincerity and depth of timbre.
Traditionally, the festival will present Polish jazz. This year it will introduce Zbigniew Namyslovskyi quintet. He is one of the few jazz musicians who cultivates the cultural traditions of their country. His interest in Polish folklore is well known outside Poland, because of its composition - a mix of jazz and folk.
Opening of the festival will bring a positive charge of the senses. After all, -our old friends who "broke concert hall at the XI Festival" will be presenting a new program on stage. "Instrumental theater" The Shin is the sound of the musical meeting of Georgia with the world. In the music of The Shin Georgian style vocal pyrotechnics meets complex polyphony and instrumental virtuosity and jazz scattering, funk and fusion, flamenco, Ravel and Shakti. How does it sound? Difficult, strange, driving. This time in the project there is Javier Paksarino, who is considered to be one of the best saxophonists of Spain.
On the first day of the festival (22.09.2012.) one finds two festival premieres. First on the scene Gustav Lundgren trio will appear. He is one of the most renowned jazz guitarists of Sweden. In his creative works there are over 45 CDs, with 7 - solo albums.
Subsequently the viewers will hear another trio - composer and pianist of the new stars of Italian jazz Kekko Fornarelli. This year, the band went on a European tour with a new album "Room of Mirrors". They are called romantics of jazz. And within this category are professional and original.
Project VEIN (Switzerland) - is another premier of the festival. The trio includes Michael Arbents (piano), Thomas Lenz (bass), Florian Arbents (drums). Michael Arbents performed with world-renowned musicians: Greg Osby, Wolfgang Puschnig, Glenn Ferris, Muneer B.Fennell, Kent Carter, Matthieu, Marc Johnson. Since 2008, Michael Arbents teaches at the University of Music in Lucerne. Florian Arbents as a leading musician tours, concerts and does recordings of CDs with Kirk Lightsey, Greg Osby, Glenn Ferris, Wolfgang Puschnig, Bennie Maupin, Matthieu Michel, Dave Liebman and others. In 2000, Florian Arbents was awarded in European culture for "contributions to the development of jazz and classical music.
Festival program of the second day (09/23/2012) will be begun by the singer and composer Oksana Slavna and Roman Kulmatitsky quartet (trumpet, flugelhorn). This team, which also includes Alexander Horev (drums), Konstantin Samoylyuk-Yakovskyy (bass, bass guitar), Yuri Kondrytskyy (keyboards) has been working since January 2012. It united the known Vinnytsia musicians who simultaneously work in other projects. Oksana Slavna (vocal) - was born and raised in Transcarpathia, but revealed herself creatively in Vinnytsia. She successfully performed at various competitions as the author and performer,laureate of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, in 2011got Diploma of the contest "Castrocaro" (Italy).
The project «BREINS CAFE» (Austria - France - Bulgaria) entered Mario Forte (violin), Anton Donchev (pianist), George Breynshmidt (bass). George Breynshmidt - world jazz star, who has repeatedly presented in Vinnytsia , in projects of Arcadiy Shilkloper, Allegra Korea. Qualitative groovy music, virtuoso masterful game –that is what features George. His partner Mario Forte released his first album «Tribute Walkin '» in 2010, where he conducted the orchestra. In 2011, Mario Forte became a professor of the jazz ensemble department at the High School of Music in Lausanne (Switzerland). Anton Donchev is pianist, composer and arranger. In 1985 he founded the famous jazz project "Acoustic Version". His first appearance on the European music scene has been awarded the Grand Prix at the Jazz Contest in Belgium.
The programme will be closed - at the request of the audience – by the duo of two world stars - Andrey Kondakov (clavier, Russia) and Jesse Jones Jr. (saxophone, flute, USA), for their performance at the XI Festival together with Vinnytsia young musicians impressed positive feelings and an unforgettable experience.
The collaboration with television partner of the festival - Vinnitsa Regional State TV and Radio Company "VINTERA" is also preserved.
As part of the rebranding of the festival organizers initiated some changes. Thus clothes and images of the festival conductors were created by masters copyright studioof Liudmila Kvetna. Every outfit she created has a different elegance and novelty, and each new image reveals the designer as a creative person, and adds to the charm of the festival.
Also in the XVII Jazz Festival «VINNYTSIA JAZZFEST - 2012" in the gallery "Art Shic" with the support of the Polish Institute in Kiev and the Consulate of Poland for the first time in Ukraine Vinnytsia will host exhibition of Polish Jazz Poster by presenting well-known collector, a representative from Krakow Poster Gallery Mr. Krzysztof Dydo
